This course will develop the student's basic understanding of the principles of management with emphasis on the practical application of business theory and concepts. Specific management functions such as planning, organizing, motivating, controlling, and decision-making will be examined using the case study approach. The emphasis will be on analysis and decision-making. The student will examine the major stages in an organization's evolution and the key decisions which arise at each stage.

On completion of this course, the student will be aware of the interactive nature of organizations and the various environmental factors, both internal and external, which affect the operation of the organization and its management. The student will also improve his/her ability to communicate both verbally and in writing, an essential part of the application of business theory and concepts.
